Little nuggets collected from a former teacher's perspective. "Often times what first appears as a lump of coal, in time becomes a sparkling gem." "We are not yet what we can become".

What year are we really preparing students for?
I just love Dr. Hedi Hayes Jacobs! I came across this talk that she did for TEDxNYED. She always ask the question, "What year are you preparing your students for?" We may laugh at this question but when we really think about it, we are still far from the 21st Century that we like to pretend that we are preparing today's students for. Take a listen to what Jacobs has to say.

Why did I ever become a teacher?
I love this posting by Katie Stansberry found on the ITSE (International Society for Technology in
Education )site. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of beginning a new school year we forget what moved us to go into education in the first place. hhttp://www.iste.org/connect/iste-connects/blog-detail/11-09-04/Inspirational_Videos_for_the_New_School_Year.aspx
Enjoy your year!

Education in the Spotlight
Since the release of the Documentary Waiting for Superman, education in America has been in the forefront of the news.
There are some exciting things happening in the world of education, including documentaries and special projects that continue to put the educational system in the spotlight. This is a great time to provide you with some current resources and articles, as well as provide ways for you to directly impact your classroom and community.
Waiting for Superman, The Cartel, Race to Nowhere, and The Lottery explore the current state of education in the U.S. Each documentary takes a different angle, but they all force us to keep talking and evaluating how we serve our students in this country.
