I love the updated version of the Social Media Revolution. Thanks Janice A. for sharing it with me.
Little nuggets collected from a former teacher's perspective. "Often times what first appears as a lump of coal, in time becomes a sparkling gem." "We are not yet what we can become".

Education in the Spotlight
There are some exciting things happening in the world of education, including documentaries and special projects that continue to put the educational system in the spotlight. This is a great time to provide you with some current resources and articles, as well as provide ways for you to directly impact your classroom and community.
Waiting for Superman, The Cartel, Race to Nowhere, and The Lottery explore the current state of education in the U.S. Each documentary takes a different angle, but they all force us to keep talking and evaluating how we serve our students in this country.

Freshman Big Welcome
- Honking Horns and Blaring Music
- Smiling Faces and New Friends
- Farewell to Parents
Every summer Oklahoma University's Couch Towers morphs into central headquarters for the staff and students who participates in Camp Crimson. The mission of the Camp Crimson Staff is to hold a no holds barred fun and informative event for approximately 500 freshmen and transferring students. The final goal is to build confidence and a sense of community through fun, fun and more fun.
The Main Man
- Long Days
- Longer Nights
- Tireless Energy
The man of the hour (are shall we say the man of the week) for the success of Camp Crimson is Zach Stevens, OU's Camp Crimson's Director. Zach along with a staff of 30 or more current OU students are the force that make the camp an enjoyable time for all.
Camp Crimson participants enjoy the experience so much that many volunteer to return as counselors and mentors for the next year's Camp. Lara Landers a third year student at OU had great things to say about her experience as a camp counselor as well as a former camper.

What About Mom & Dad???
- From Worries to Relaxation
- Letting Go is Hard to Do
- Cutting the Apron Strings
Dropping your child off for the first time at college can stir up many emotions, tears, worries and even panic. Will little Johnny or Jane eat right? Will they remember how to sort the light clothes from the colors? How much is four, five or heaven forbid six years going to cost me for the college experience? You get the picture. Mom and Dad are left to commiserate while Johnny or Jane meet new friends and build confidence at Camp Crimson.
Not all parents struggle with the long good byes of seeing their college freshman spread their wings. Some families have a long family tradition of attending the same University. Check out the video of the Jones family whose third child is following their footsteps to OU and Camp Crimson.

Multimedia Reshaping Learning
Refreshing! Energizing! Titillating! Life changing and Mind blowing are terms to describe a recent experience at Oklahoma University’s Gaylord College of Journalism Media Center for lucky state High School teachers taking part in the Oklahoma Multimedia Workshop funded by the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism.
The opportunity to develop multimedia skills and interact with the crème de la crème of broadcast journalism was not for the faint of heart. Four power-packed days of blogging, twittering , video basics and video editing was just the right combination needed to help teachers reshape how multimedia is used in the classroom.
Kudos to the Radio and Television Directors News Foundation (RTDNF) and the Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) for organizing a truly amazing event. A Special Thanks to Ethics and Excellence in Journalism for funding and supporting initiatives for High School teachers.
A standing ovation for Carol Knopes (RTDNF) and the fine team of instructors which consist of Dr. Sybrill Bennett aka Mutlitmedia Maven, Janet Kerby and Howe's Public School's Tammy Parks. Each of these outstanding presenters kept everyone on the edge of their seats throughout the workshops! If you missed out on this year's event check out the site links provided for future workshops.
